Goals: February

Well I think it’s finally happened, I’m going insane, yep. I’ve feared it happening for a while now, but I think I can no longer put off the obvious. What am I talking about? Well I could have sworn I had typed and posted a post about my writing goals from January, but I can’t seem to find the post. Not on this one or the old site. I can’t even find it on my downloaded blog writer tool thingy. So I guess I’m just going to have to redo what I thought I did do but did not do…confusing yes?

Okay so what were my January goals and how did I do?

1. Complete chapter 14 of Jade: DONE! I actually did this before January ended and was able to update the ongoing story on the site before the 1st of January ended.

2. Work on Beta-Reading Project: DONE! I currently am acting as a beta reader for a fellow writer I met through one of my Yahoo groups. She has two chapters of her manuscript done so far and I was able to get her feedback by mid-January. Granted I had had this stuff since the beginning of December, but we all know how that month went for me.

3. Write chapter 5 of Locked Away: NOT DONE! I didn’t even start the chapter *hangs head in shame*. I tried to at least once that I remember to start and ultimately finish it but it was a no go.

4. Complete chapter 4 of Changing Metamorphosis: NOT DONE! I did work on this one, but halfway through I looked at it and then the thought of adding a scene in between what I had written for chapter 3 and what I had planned for chapter 4 entered my head. Which meant I was stuck, so no forward progress for the rest of the month.

Summary: 50% done and 50% left undone. Not bad…I guess…depending on how you look at this sort of stuff (half-full/half-empty). With all the other things that happened this month, I kind of slacked off on my blogging as well. But since I had to make these goals up on the fly, I’m happy with my progress. Now what are my February goals? Well since it’s a short month I have to be selective on what I want to accomplish.

1. Complete chapter 4 of Changing Metamorphosis: This is one of the only Big Three that hasn’t gotten an update in quite some time. Which is odd since I’m further along in the planning process for this novel then Locked Away. So this is the first and foremost on my list of things to do.

2. Write chapter 5 of Locked Away: I owe it that much since I didn’t even start it last month.

3. Step my blogging up: I’m setting the goal of posting something on this blog at least twice a week (my weeks start on Mondays and goes to Sundays.) I want to give you guys more attention and let you guys know what’s happening with the writing.

4. Write for a least one hour a day: This is the one that’s going to be tricky. I tend to zone out when I actually get in the mood to write and don’t keep track of the time. But this is part of my yearly goal. But since I forgot such things last month (I didn’t keep a running total of when I wrote), I’m already behind. So I’m getting back on track with this month.

Well that’s that. I’m semi-confident that I’ll be able to meet these goals, barring I’ve broken through whatever writer’s block I was in. If I manage to finish #1 & #2 then I’ll start chapter 15 of Jade, and if by some unknown miracle I finish that…perhaps another one shot. I’ll close this blog with a quick rundown of my 2008 goals:

1. Finish draft one of Jade: Three more chapters to go, I’m more than confident that I can get this one completed.

2. Write draft two of The Halloween Party: I pretty sure I can get this one done, I’ve had two other writer’s critique it and they have given me some good advice. I just need to set aside a good week or so to knock it out.

3. Submit inquires to 5 different publishers: I’ve started compiling a list of possible publishers. I’m not going to do much more unto I have something worthwhile to show to them.

4. Write for a total of 365 hours on the Big Three: Like I said above, I kind of forgot this goal last month, so I kind of have to start over. This can be a piece of cake if I can stay away from the block.

5. Participate in NaNoWriMo: I learned of this phenomenon last October, and I wanted to participate then but I knew I wouldn’t be able to devote the time to it. This year I’m planning for it ahead of time. I’m not going to put a word limit on myself this time around, I just want to say I participated.

6. Write 10 articles for Helium: This is something my friend turned me on to. It allows me to delve into my non-fiction writing side. I’ll write a more in-depth post about it later. But I’ve written and submitted one article already.
