Writing Challange: Day One
Day one of the Easter Writing Challenge. Just to remind you, it’s a challenge to write 6,000 words in 4 days. And the results for day one are:
5,021 words.
So much for challenge huh? I started around 5 and kept writing till 10, when I stopped to get food. Even though I’m that close to the end of the challenge I’m not near the end of the story. I’m not sure I can end it in the 6,000 word target. Not that that’s bad, just saying. I’ve changed some things in the set up of the story. Instead of Noah and Marcellus being friends, I made them cousins.
One of the things I’ve been trying to break myself of is the habit I have of going back and editing as I write. That takes a lot of time and effort, and I often change the story when I do that. I’ve limited myself to only going back to change small details if I find something isn’t working out like I thought it would. I’m only do this because I didn’t do any pre-planning outlining, just a plot summary.
I’m trying to convince myself not to write any more since it’s so close to the end of the day, it’s really hard. Simply because I’ve been sitting on this particular story for a while, I had came up with the notion in the middle of the night a couple of months ago and then promptly forgot it. I had written it in one of my many notepads, and my mom had started carrying it. When I finally got it back I found the notes and decided to leave it for this challenge. I thought it would be an easy one-shot type of story. I also though Natalia would be the same, but that ended up becoming a short story with a sequel.
